Batach-Trust

That is what I have been searching God's Word about tonight....TRUST! Have you ever memorized or read Proverbs 3:5-6? It is a pretty well know verse. Tonight, I dug a little deeper and looked up the Hebrew word of trust in v.5. Let me just give you the verse so your memory can be refreshed:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
So, I ask myself...what exactly does it mean here to really TRUST in the Lord? One reference of the Hebrew word directed me to Isaiah 26:4-"Trust in the Lord forever, for in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock."
Another is Psalm 33:20-21 "Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our sheild. For our heart rejoices in Him, because we trust in His holy name."
Again in Psalm 22:4 "In Thee our fathers trusted; they trusted, and Thou dist deliver them."
In 1 Chronicles 5:20 "And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites and all who were with them were given into their hand; for they cried out to God in the battle, and He was entreated for them, because they trusted in Him."
There are more, but the last one I will list is 2 Kings 18:5 in regards to Hezekiah "He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel; so that after him there was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among those who were before him."

Take a look at these verses to see the context and what happens with the people after they have trusted in the Lord. This will really help to understand my explanation below.

Ok, so how does this all come together? After observing all these verses I found that every time someone placed there complete trust in God, He would deliver them from something or give them som sort of victory. Why do I always have to doubt God and His perfect Will for my life? Ok, so I am a sinful and selfish person who wants to do it my way like the rest of the human race. The Lord gives many examples in His Word to tell us how His faithfulness will never end. We can depend on Him!! Yippee! Thank God.....
So, looking at my bible's lexical aid in the back for this word it says: to attach oneself, to trust, confide in, feel safe, be confident, secure, rely on. This type of hope is a confident expectation, not a constant anxiety. We can truly relax when we know Who is in control.
I love that last sentence. How assuring it is to truly trust in God and know that He will never fail us. Don't forget that we as humans might not agree on God's way, but that He knows what is best for us.
So, I hope that this has encouraged you in your walk with God. Remember that last sentence and check out who God really is and all the promises He gives us as Christians. The last thing is that this trust issue is a two-fold thing. I believe it is an if-then statement like the verses represent. God will deliver you and take control of your life when you are willing to totally relax into His rest. This rest is giving Him the control and allowing Him to work through you.

Java

And no, I'm not talking about coffee.....although that would be a much easier subject. Ever feel like you are totally incapable of ever understanding something? Well, that's me right now in my Java intro to computer programming class. I knew it would be stretching and difficult, but I never imagined it could be this mind boggling. It's as if I have to put my mind on another planet. Programmers definently have a different mind. It is beyond me. This is going to be one of those classes where I have no problem being totally and completely dependent upone the Lord to get me through it. Sometimes I wonder how He even understands it, but then He is the creator of the whole world. He is the Master programmer! I'm glad He's on my side.

Ok, so life has not been the easiest adjustment here. I bring GOOD NEWS! The first two weeks were tough, but now we are in to the heart of school (the third week). Tests are coming, but I can finally say I am enjoying my time here. Today, I went to classes as normal. I only have two on Thursday: MIS and World History. Today is like no other day in World History, today was a Starbuck's lottery day! This is the first one in History (lecture 2).
So here is how it works:
-Come to class and sign your initials for attendance...notice the venti Starbucks cup at the sign in table and see the paper to sign and put your name in the cup. Hmmm..should I do the lottery? What if I actually get picked? Will it be a good time? Ok, so I'll just try it out. I drop my name in the cup and have that feeling that I will be picked. OK, just trust in whatever God plans.
-Prof Jensen starts class with prayer and then moves to the drawing of the names. He will draw two girls and two guys....Drum roll...A girl drawn two seats next to me....next, MY NAME is called....I think I want to go..ok, just go and have fun. Two guys are picked and that's the end of the lottery until next time.

So, 4:30 hits and we all meet at the Gazeebo to get our free Starbuck's drink and just talk and share a little of our lives with Prof Jensen and 3 other students.

I won't bore you with the details, but I have to say it's one of the best times I've had here at Master's. It's basically set up as a talk show: Prof Jensen is the Host and we are the people he interviews. He also shares about His own life during the conversation. We go around the circle with different questions about: your home town and all the details, your major and where you are headed in life, any thing you have collected over the years and hobbies. At the end, He opens the discusion to ask him any questions. Our hour comes to an end and we all leave with the experience of getting to know each other in about an hour, over free Starbuck's drinks. That's my experience for today.
Life Lesson: Be real with people and open up to listen. You never know what interesting things you can learn about a stranger in History class.

A Night Out

OK, so I finally took a break from my normal routine of sleep, eat, classes and studying. I actually went out on Friday night with a bunch of my wing girls. We went to a casusal restaurant called Firestone Grill. They have amazing salads, breadsticks and tri-tip steak. We all enjoyed having food that didn't come from the cafeteria and thought we should have a desert to top it off. We went to another amazing restaurant called BJ's, but it was way to long of a wait to just have desert. So, thinking like cheap college students we went to Von's (grocery store) and bought some large bakery cookies and a tub of icecream. Back at the dorm, we enjoyed our icecream sandwiches and were very full by the end. Oh, and when we share a hall desert, the top of the garbadge can becomes our table. Sounds appetizing huh? Here are just a few of my wingmates enjoying their delicious treats. The whole meal cost me 5 dollars. How about that for a budget?
